I am a clinical psychologist with a passion for enhancing the innate resilience of children, teens, young adults, and families to help them overcome stressors and challenging life circumstances. Over the past 7 years, I have worked with patients in a variety of settings, including community- and hospital-based outpatient mental health clinics, specialty clinics for individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), pediatric primary care, a maximum security juvenile correctional facility, and of course, via telehealth. I have worked with patients to address difficulties associated with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, behavioral difficulties, interpersonal and family conflict, and more.
Although I have expertise in treating a wide range of concerns, I have specialized training to work with young people with behavioral difficulties, ADHD, and trauma. One of the reasons I chose to specialize in this area is that these individuals are too often misunderstood or mislabeled negatively when their behaviors are simply a normal response to abnormal circumstances. It is my greatest honor to help these young people see their own value and worth and envision a brighter future for themselves after struggling with their mental health or challenging life circumstances for so long.
Throughout my career, I have not only provided treatment and assessment services, but also pursued research with the goal of helping teens thrive. In particular, my research focuses on ways to prevent aggression (everything from bullying to gun violence), substance use, and delinquent behavior among teens by promoting their resilience and ability to cope. I have received funding from the National Institutes of Health to support my research. I currently conduct research in a hospital-based violence intervention program, which connects individuals who are violently injured (e.g., assaulted, shot) to support services that can prevent them from being harmed by violence ever again.
